The only US bourbon to spell it's name without a 'e' is Maker's Mark. It does this as a nod to its Scottish ancestry.
Laphroaig, which you also mention, is finished in old Maker's Mark casks.
No idea why I'm telling you this really. Just bored at work, I guess.

Re: Whiskey
Black Bush is a very good blended whiskey and I tried Tallisker when we visited the distillery when we were in Skye...that was lovely...the girl insisted I try it with just a touch of water...it does improve it ,bringing out the aromas a lot more.
Whisky without the 'e' in Scottish ,whiskey with the 'e' is from everywhere else
The Makers' Mark distillery is worth visiting in Kentucky just to stand there and take the air outside the stillhouse - good whiskey too

Re: Whiskey
Nikka have won quite a few Best Blended Malt awards in the World Whisky Awards, pains me a bit, being a bit of a Scottish Whisky snob, but those experts like the Japanese whiskies.

easthammer - there's blended whisky and there's Japanese blended whisky. Nikka is a lovely drop.

Mount Gay Eclipse rum from Barbados is a very fine dark rum. White Oak from Trinidad as a white rum pisses all over Bacardi.

Re: Whiskey
I have today been given as a Father's Day present a bottle of Nikka Days Japanese Whisky ( and yes that is the spelling just "y" disproving it is only Scottish Whisky that uses that spelling).

I haven't tried it yet but note that it is a blended whisky. My preference for many years has been for single malts or Irish. So it will be interesting to see how it compares.

I generally drink blended whisky, not because of any false pretensions but as I young man I got very drunk on whisky that for a long time I just couldn't face the stuff.

Later in life, I rediscovered whisky via single malts and "Irish".

The multitude of malts offer a completely different experience than what I consider unpalatable often fiery blends.

One thing I was taught by my Godfather, who was a professional Whisky Broker, there is a lot of marketing bollocks around whisky and that is a conspicuous consumption product ( you may sell more by raising the price) So just because a bottle of whisky (Japanese or Scottish costs more doesn't make it "better" than a cheaper product particularly if you don't prefer the taste

I am happy to admit my memory was not so accurate, but as I remembered it did win a World Whisky Award.

Question is Branded can your big overinflated ego admit you were wrong?

“Mex. it won best budget supermarket single malt”

Fucking didn’t.

It won a World Whisky Award in the category of Best Blended Scottish Whisky 12 yrs and under.

That is some heavy competition in there and a fairly prestigious award and Queen Margot is definitely worth a try if you see it in Lidl, but it’s not on the shelves for long when they put it out.

Re: Whiskey
You spelt Whisky wrong (unless you're Irish or American).

Had some Jura recently and was very nice. Another vote for Laphroaig here, love the stuff.

A friend of mine just bought me a bottle of Arran, haven't opened it yet, anyone had it?

Re: Whiskey
The Aldi Islay is very ashy and far too dry for a smokey whisky. If you blend it with a cheap Irish you get a half decent blend.

Another vote for Laphroaig QC here. I love the almost medicinal taste of TCP you get with Laphroaig.

SMOKEHEAD is a bit hipster gimmicky but very similar tasting.
